I posted the following on Jay Bookman’s blog on May 30, 2017 in response to another poster: (Link: http://jaybookman.blog.myajc.com/2017/05/30/opinion-the-most-important-house-race-in-history/ )
“Let us let Jefferson speak for himself.
Thomas Jefferson: (From Dr. Saul Padover’s book, “Jefferson” – footnoted to Jefferson’s “Notes on the State of Virginia”)
” ‘Some men look at constitutions with sanctimonious reverence and deem them like the arc of the covenant, too sacred to be touched. They ascribe to the men of the preceding age a wisdom more than human, and suppose what they did to be beyond amendment. . . .I know. . . that laws and institutions must go hand in hand with the progress of the human mind. . . .As. . . new discoveries are made, new truths disclosed, and manners and opinions change with the change of circumstances, institutions must advance also, and keep pace with the times. We might as well require a man to wear still the coat which fitted him when a boy, as civilized society to remain ever under the regimen of their barbarous ancestors. . . .Each generation. . . has. . .a right to choose for itself the form of government it believes most promotive of its own happiness. . . .a solemn opportunity of doing this every nineteen or twenty years should be provided by the constitution.’ ”
“His (Jefferson’s) conclusion in the matter of laws and institutions was that they were perpetually subject to change for the benefit of humanity. ‘Nothing then,’ he told Major John Cartwright in 1824, ‘is unchangeable but the inherent and unalienable rights of man.’ ”
I posted the following comments on Jay Bookman’s blog on the same thread on May 31, 2017:
“God does work in mysterious ways.
Does anyone remember when I wrote, about 6 months ago on this blog, that the combination of Donald Trump’s ineptitude and arrogance which would create U. S. failure in the world
and that that fact, in combination with the vision of Barack Obama for the United States to lead from behind with moral authority,
would thrust the United States into becoming the impetus whereby all of the nations of the world would now see that they (like all people) are inherently equal, in the world of the 21st century, and that this emerging egalitarian consciousness would forge a new interdependence of nations and people upon one another in order to insure our mutual survival on this isolated planet in this universe?
Poster #1 to Mary Elizabeth:
“Orange clown has undone Allied victory in WWII and told the Germans to take over defense and control of Europe.”
Mary Elizabeth’s response to Poster #1:
“Whatever ‘Orange’ has temporarily done regarding the U. S.’s power OVER Europe is not what is going to unfold on this planet in the long run, as I see it.
This world is going to have to be forced into an egalitarian consciousness, as envisioned and dreamed of by Thomas Jefferson 250 years ago, through the evolution of human consciousness in combination with the unfolding of human events in the world.”
“. . . and he (President Trump) is a major failure who has to hide from the majority who don’t want him. He is the most isolated president to ever serve in the White House, this is what not having a mandate looks like.”
Mary Elizabeth in response to Poster #2
“This is what a man’s consciousness (or lack thereof) will lead him into when combined with extreme Narcissism.
‘Our fate, dear Brutus, is not in our Stars, but in ourselves.’
– From “Julius Caesar” by William Shakespeare”
Poster #2 to Mary Elizabeth:
“(T)his is (another poster’s) man, his fate is now our fate, minority rurals dictate our fate, the joy of it all!”
Mary Elizabeth to Poster #2
“I am not pessimistic; I am optimistic for our future together on this planet, under God’s control.
See my prophecy, above, regarding our common fate on Earth that is based on communion not domination, as Obama had the vision to foresee, also.”
